The Winery 

Midnight’s production facility is located on the Anderson Road property, adjacent to the tasting room. During harvest, it is here that all the fruit is two-table sorted, fermented, and barrel stored. Barrel regiments are all French oak with variable percentages of new.

Winemaking

Rich is often asked to describe his passion, focus, and ideas about winemaking. The answer is perhaps simpler than expected: he tries to grow the grapes as best he can, and purchase grapes from growers that share that same approach. He adamantly believes that working with great grapes makes winemaking a simple testament to the soil, the region, and the varietal.  

For estate grown fruit, Rich favors a well-made, varietally correct wine that ages beautifully. Our calcareous shale and limestone soils impart the bold acidity necessary to produce these age worthy wines. His creative expression is apparent in the blended offerings, including Aurora, Full Moon Red, Gemini Reserve Red, Mare Nectaris, and Zenith Estate Cuveé.
